Since moving to our current home we have had a 4th of July party every year. It started because we were located between the mall and the country club and from our yard we could watch the fireworks from both of those locations at the same time. Over time the mall area was developed to the point that it became dangerous for the firework show so it was moved to another location. However we are still left with the Springdale Country Club show. Our parties have been small gatherings to big events such as the year the group from Mexico came and many friends from Center Street Church.
This year I was struggling with wanting to do a party. We finally decided to have Buddy and Barbara, who have been the one constant at each party, and no one else. We even discussed going out to eat and then coming back here for dessert and then walking to the country club for the show. Somehow from Thursday to Saturday it changed from them and us to the June, Yan, and David, Sophie and Jeff, Gary, Jeff and Michelle, the Kevin, Dawn, Kade and Kamden, Kevin, Marti, Anna, and Samantha, and Kathy and Danny making a total of 23 people. Somehow last night all I could think of was how blessed we were and how magical the sound of children laughing and playing sounded. I'm thankful to all who came and brought food, fireworks and friendship. I'm thankful that so many friends were willing to spend their 4th of July with us. After lots of food we walked to the country club and watched a wonderful display and then back to our house to watch another display of hard earned money going up in smoke. All in all a wonderful, wonderful day.
This morning I opened my front door to a yard that looks like a frat party took place last night. Just another reminder of the blessing of friends. Happy 4th of July to all.
